During the last year, KI has had speakers bring our congregation information about social action needs/issues. These included both congregants and non-congregants, talking about their experiences in Darfur in the Sudan, in Hebron, with Project Hope working in Indonesia after the Tsunaumi, with the David Project, in CAMERA, and running the Framingham Heart Study, to name but a few.
Each November, members of the Social Action Committee learn practical skills on developing and running effective social action programming at JCRC's Tzedek Institute.
The KI Social Action Committee has coordinated KI's participation in Project Ezra - a project for Jewish participants to volunteer in various organizations on Christmas Day; developed a special Social Action Shabbat program; held discussions with priests from the St. Mary's parish in Brookline about a joint social action project; helped to plan our annual Purim Basket project, and most recently, helped with KI's planning of a Yom Hashoa program that was held at Hebrew Senior Life's Hebrew Rehab facility in Roslindale.
We've got lots going on and we want YOUR help. Even if your availability is limited, there are ways you can participate in KI's Social Action Committee. To sign up for our email bulletin, which keeps Social Action Committee members informed, please email mainoffice@congki.org, or leave a message in the KI office at (617) 277-9155.
